well, the jcm is a good amp but it has surley not enough gain/distortion to deliver the sound you like. you should get an additional boost/distortion pedal.
My Rig:

Ibanez RBM - I adore this axe!!
Fender Strat (Duncan PU's + Floyd-Rose)
Washburn Acoustic
Kustom Quad200 Amp-Head
Cusom-made 2x12 Cabinet
Guitar Rig2 (for Recording...awesome!)
Dunlop Cry-Baby
Rocktron Intellifex
Boss SD-1

and yes, i will have active pickups

that amp has more of a classic rock distortion but with a nice OD pedal you can eaily get as much distortion you'll ever need. That is the canadian version of the 2203 (different switches) thats it, and its an early one too so thats good. And believe it or not it has very good cleans

What pedal would I need?

My JCM 800 with a Les Paul and active pickups can do Slayer. Has to be cranked pretty good though.

king uses his active 10 band eq, so he boosts the gain and signal some with that. jeff is just straight in though.
