Hey guys, I posted this in the EG forum but that got basically no help....

So here it goes, I'm a bass player but I've been playing guitar for about the past 2 years not seriously, and playing through my Bassman 60 with various pedals to get decent tones - anyways, i'm tired of playing through a bass amp so I'm gonna try to get a real guitar amp.

I work at the local music instrument store so i get everything Cost + 10% so I guess now is better than ever to get one

my style: I play metal prodominantly, but I do enjoy playing bluesy funky jazzy stuff (I.E. frank zappa, steely dan, etc) so hopefully a great metal tone but can be changed to suit an accoustic/clean riff perfectly too.

I'm probably gonna be using it for band practices (my band, not school) and small gigs (200-300 people probably)

Our store stocks Marshall, Fender, Mesa/boogie, Peavey, Kustom, Vox and Traynor amps.

price range: probably (retail) around 700-800 dollars canadian, may be willing to go higher, highest probably around 950-1000.

So, I've tried an AVT50X and it seemed ok, but through searches and reviews on this site it seems very heavily denied, so maybe not?
and I tried a Peavey valveking which I didn't really like....

so, please, suggestions

you could get a traynor YCV50 blue with a od-9 as a boost for metal

ORRR

a PEAVEY JSX (combo)

Meh to the traynor ycv50 blue, my friend has one and I'm not a huge fan of it

As for the JSX, man.... i'd love that amp but i'm still not the greatest guitar player, don't need something that amazing lol

Since you work there, why not try them all out?

ah generally it's frowned upon to be playing while there are
A) customers
b) we are clocked in

plus there's quite a few amps we dont have, especially larger combos

how about this (since no-one is responding)
a decent combo in the price range previously mentioned which can give tones (out of the box) simmilar to the distortions/clean-ness of the following songs:

distortion
Angels don't kill - Children of Bodom
Victoria's Secret (verses especially) - Sonata Arctica
War of Fidelity - Old Man's Child (especially the part around 2:25)

Clean
Fly by Night - Rush
Andy - Zappa
Draw Me - Sonata Arctica

if you need any of the songs for examples add me on msn at different_strings@hotmail.com (please don't add me to pester me)

Did you play the Valveking and Traynor cranked? Because you kind of need to as they're tube amps. You probably did, but it's just a thought as you preferred an AVT to those amps O_o
A dwarf might hear you. What then?
