Well, I'm getting a new guitar on sunday as a reward for getting all A's in my classes. This will be my second guitar, and I have 500 bucks to use. I play metal (Metallica, Pantera, Megadeth) and stuff like that, but I'm not sure on what to get. The Ibanez RG 350DX looks good, I've played on it, and I like it a lot, it has a floyd rose and all that, but I've heard people say that the Edge II trem (or whatever it is) isn't that good. I also am attracted to the 1958 Epiphone Explorer, but I don't know how it plays.... Out of these two guitars, which one is the better buy? If neither of these, then which one would be good for $500? Just note I can't save up and buy a better one, as this is a take-it-or-leave-it situation.

Rg 350's trem sucks.

With 500 dollars, get an Ibanez RG321MH.... Way better than the 350..... String thru, mahogony body, wizard 2 neck, AANJ........ It will only set you back 280$

With the left over money upgrade the pickups and boom, uve got a 1000$ dollar guitar for 400$ basically

im baffled.
thats the most rediculous thing ive ever heard.
im assuming your parents are supplying the cash.
tell your parents to let you save up for a guitar you really want.
instead of them wasting it on a guitar you just found and like it a little.
why would they wanna do that anyway? to the f*cking max

I used to hqave the Ibanez RG350DX. it sounded great but do anything to that trem and its completely out of tune. Unfortunately the Edge 3 or whaever bridge sucks. I would suggest an ESP probably a kirk hammet 202. theyre about $450

^ NO! (to threadstarter)

Thats the mistake people make alot of times about buying the 321....

Its gotta be the 321MH ( note the mh = mahogony )

http://www.samedaymusic.com/product--IBARG321MH There! Make sure if you buy one , its an MH

Well, it's my grandparents money, and I COULD save, but the thing is, is that they probably wouldn't keep it in saving or whatever, so god knows how long it'll be until the opportunity will come again.

And I've played guitars for 500 dollars I've really liked... I'm just trying to see which will get me more for my money.

You obviously dont know what YOURE talking about.

What do you think an Edge 3 is? A liscensed floyd rose.... Theres good and bad LFRS.

The edge 3 is as good as an OFR brand new, but thats the thing with cheap lfrs like the one on the guitar you suggested. They use CHEAP materials and metals, and VERY SOON, the knife edges wear out, causing it to go out of tune.

Do some research and dont suggest something without at least knowing a little bit about what you suggested.

You really are a bright one. Were not talking about the edge 3..... I was comparing LFR models and letting you know how they work and whats the dealio with them

Were not talking about the RG350 here, i said in the the 1st post of the thread that was a bad guitar.

You mentioned the KH202 which has a crappy trem as well.

Now, as i said before, BRAND NEW, low end LFRS are good. Its after a few months they start to weaken and knife edges wear out. Thats why your RG350s trem is terrible quality, and the KH202 's trem did not go out of tune. Because you played multiple ones at a store correct. Well , they havent had the time to wear yet.

Get it now, "smart guy".

1. Reesh if full of **** about the trem he played on.
2. ever think of looking at some jacksons.
3. Also if you could save up check out some new custom guitars from various not so well know companies. you can usually come across a extreamly well built guitar for really cheap due to the fact that the company is just starting..
