Basswood is known for its middy sound. Maple neck and Basswood is not a bad combo (alot of guitars has it, such as JEM's, RG's, Mustangs and so on). Well Basswood is a "good" wood, if you liek teh sound. ITs very popular among shredders. What guiatr is it you want?

i think that rg370dx u have is basswood, ibanez makes alot of guitar with basswood, is for quality ibanez gets a better quality basswood then other asain companies, but the sound is your preference, i here its very mid-range i think my ibanez's are basswood, but there for 98 and 01 so i don't kno, pretty good guitars though

it's the same combo you're already using. I think they work very well together. Basswood isn't crap, it's just preference of what you like. Tonally, it's between alder and mahogany. Some of the JEM models are made from basswood.

Basswood most definately isnt crap.

I typically like basswood, ive had a basswood rg and a mahogony rg. Tone wise, i liked the basswood a little bit better.... Mahog is just a little bit to dark, but then again im into howe/lynch and such, who both have bright tones and thats what i prefer.

Go for it, its most certainly not irregular.

^ Yes, but i was just comparing the basswood to mahogony.

Maple is even brighter than alder.

Basswood can be great if it's quality. My WI14 is one of the best guitars I've played under $300, but it only cost $150.

The body on it is 3 pieces of basswood and it has a maple bolt on neck. It sounds absolutely amazing for the price it cost, yet it's made out of wood that many people consider to be sh*t.

As others have said, basswood has a more mid-sounding tone. Not as bright as alder, and not as dark as mahogany. It can sound really good in my opinion. I suggest you try a few of the guitar you're looking at and pick the best sounding one.

hmmm alright.

Ive been looking around for V's lately but the only ones ive wanted are either a rip off or are not being produced anymore.
So I was looking at the michael schenker edition, which has the basswood + maple.. but there were too many things wrong with it for me (bad pickups bolt on neck etc)

but i kept looking and i think ive found the PERFECT one for me...
set neck, decent pups, great color, good price and is stocked at my dealer

I was trying to stay away from dean cause im not a fan of string thru but this just REALLY caught my eye.

thats where my biggest problem is right now..
all of the ones that I WANT to try out, I cant because they dont have the stock. And because the music stores here are douchebags they said that they want a downpayment just to ship it in so i can try it.. I might not even like it but im still having to front the money.

Ouch. That sucks...hm..try looking on musician's friend. They have a return policy, so if you really don't like the guitar you can just send it back.

I've been playing a G&L strat with basswood body and maple neck and it sounds great. Very good mids, ripping texas blues sounds.
It's a fine line between clever and stupid.

Be warned though, Basswood is very soft and will dent like anything.
Ibanez -> Peavey -> Eardrums

Apparently I'm on some list of people to listen to..?

^That is extremely true. I have quite a few small dents in my WI14.

Basswood is a soft undense wood, so there might a bit less of sustain., and it's easily dented.

Basswood is boomy in its bass IMO.

oh yea, the quality for basswood varies so much, from really crap (like fender strat quality) to good ones like RG 1570.
#23
I have an old Ibanez Jem that's got a basswood body, it's got amazing tone and doesn't seem to dent any easier than any of my other guitars.

My Ibanez Rg1570 is made out of basswood. It sounds alright since i only still have the stock pickups in them and i compared with my j-custom its like totally out of the league with it since my j-custom has already dimarzio originals in that cadillac lol. I have to upgrade the pups too find out but i do believe that the basswood is very between with alder and mahogany. It can sound real fat in the neck pickup or real bright as hell in the bridge. Basswood is something special for sure (only quality ones....). But i still love how mahogany sounds and how it looks is so *drools*.....

mmm
well the one with the basswood/maple was only 500CDN so Im betting the quality of the wood wasent exactly "top of its line"

I guess Ill just stick to mahogany
