I'm using 220 (or was it 250) for the first step. Then I'm planning on going over it with a lighter grit (around 150 maybe). But I could be wrong. I'm a wood n00b.

The higher the number, the finer it is. 150 would actually be rougher than 220.

I actually started on 60 just to get the hard polish off, then once I started seeing the wood I moved down to a 100 and then I plan on finishing off with a 220. I'm currently done with one half of the body.

so 220 is a good final grit before painting?

Told you, I'm a wood n00b. Although, it turns out I'm using 100, then i'm finishing it off with maybe 150.
