So, exactly what does the scale on a neck mean? Like, 24.75 and all that. What does it do to the sound, playibility, or strings?
its the distance between the nut and the bridge saddles. it doesnt affect much except frets are slightly bigger on longer scales which makes bending slightly easier on shorter ones.

string tension can always be changed by gauges.

yeah, all it does is make everything a bit smaller obviously. frets slightly closer.
