hey...
i have an Epi LP body..agathis. nothing special.
i put a custom pickguard on it that i cut myself.
and new mounting rings and knobs.

i want to get a jackson style bolt on neck with ebony fretboard and cool inlays.
the neck on it now i a 22 fret neck. would i be able to put a 24 fret neck on it?
how much does this neck cost about? (ebay)

i want to paint it over probably a goldtop with sparkles and some kind of shape (racing stripes etc.)
where can i get a nitrocellulose paint from?

how do i strip the guitar of it coat now?

i plan to just paint over the pots and humbuckers (covered with tape though)..is this okay?

any thing else i need to know?

first, make sure the neck isnt set already, if it is then you cant change it. you can strip the paint by sanding it. this is the easiest and fastest rout. and do not just paint with the hardware covered. you will miss spots and it will look ****ty.

Lp Special II is made of Mahogany/Alder Laminate

Yup, same wood as all the other Epi LPs.

Neither Gibson/Epi make their guitars out of Agathis

yeah if its a LP special II then its plywood. but they DO have a good tone. ive played enough of them to say that they are good little guitars, with the right electronics of course. if its an epi then chances are its a bolt on neck youll just need to make sure the neck you want fits into the pocket you have. i like the goldtop idea. it sounds kinda cool. i think you can get nitro finish from stewmac.com. stripping the old paint is as easy as using a sander. chemical strippers might be too harsh. and i would remove all the hardware before attempting to refinish it.

Not plywood, ply is made of a bunch of different materials and particles, the Special II is made of an Alder/Mahogany Laminate, it's just sheets of alder and mahogany glued together.

You need to strip it of all hardware so it looks like this-

Then you start sanding with 80 grit sandpaper, once you finish that, start to smoothen it out with some 400, I'll help you with the rest later.
