i was wondering if the geddy lee bass would be worth getting over an american jazz bass for the same price .
Setup:

Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plain-Top
Crap GK strat
Vox Valvetronix 15 watt
Dunlop GCB-95 Wah
Boss DS-1

Well...

Geddy Lee Bass-
-Alder Body
-Maple Fretboard
-Bound & blocked fretboard (looks cool I think)
-Slimmer neck then normal Jazz basses
-Badass II bridge
-U.S. Vintage Jazz Pickups
-$700 USD

THe American Jazz-
-Ash or Alder Body
-Rosewood or Maple fretboard
-Graphite Reinforced neck
-U.S. Jazz Series Pickups
-S-1 Switching
-Comes with a hard case
-$1049-$1154 USD

If you can get an American Series for the same price, well, I'd play them both and see which one sounds better. I've only played the American series so I can't really compare them.

BUT, I love thin necks and the Badass II Bridge adds punch, I love punch.
-Fender Deluxe Active P-bass (60th anniversary)
-Peavey T-40 (1982)
-Hartke HA-3500
-Aguilar GS 2x12
-GK Backline 2x10

^Wow...... creepy

EDIT: I have looked at the marcus miller bass but.. don't shoot me for this... i am not a big fan of the wood finish but if its really as good as you say I might give it a try hmmm... (by the way I am the friend of the guy who started the thread and he posted it on my behalf don't ask me why I am the one who actually wants a geddy lee)

^ It comes in a non-nat finish too.

Personally, I think teh Geddy Lee is an amazing bass. After I get some bass lessons and get a bit better, I'm going to sell my beloved 1997 MIM Jazz bass for a used Geddy Lee, which I can get for about 500-550. I plan on giving the Geddy an Audere JZ3 Preamp soon, too.

It comes in Natural, 3 color sunburst, and Olympic White.

The natural is just the most famous cuz it's what Marcus actually uses, I guess.

If that's the best Chicago has to offer then... well... too bad for Chicago, I guess.

Actually MetalJunkie, i recorded those songs before i got my Jazz - they were recorded with a Schecter Custom 4, which is a very sweet bass too

I just bought myself a Geddy Lee, i compared it to the Marcus miller and the American jazz and just preffered it over the others, everything just seemed to be ... better

The Geddy, IMO, is really awesome against the other two because A) It has a maple board, which all 3 can have, which is a plus B) Has a 70s pickup spacing which sounds more aggressive, which only the Geddy & Marcus have and C) Has normal wiring, which I prefer in this case, because the Marcus' preamp isn't my favorite in the world.

Personally though, a Geddy Lee with Nordstrands or DiMarzios along with an Audere ZJ3 band would be my favorite 4 string evaaar.
