I'm an ERB fan, I've got to admit (Although I'd personally see my home being 4-7, MAYBE 8, but 7 strings with an extra low is probably all I'd feel comfortable with). The Lava is a very stunningly crafted bass, very nice woodwork by Bill Conklin.

Jean's a good guy, too.

no.

the hideous claw is THE most beautiful instrument ever made.

<EDIT> Holy crap dude, Jean had to wait 3 years to get that bass!

thats like as long as it takes to make a star wars movie, lol...

phenomenal craftsmanship though, I'd imagine it would take a helluva long time to build that thing...

I came into this thread expecting unending praise!

I for one love those ERB's he has, including the lava and most of all The Hideous Claw.

not that i'd play an ERB, just that i love them anyway

You don't argue with tubadude on Washburn-related matters, he flosses with the G string from a set of 0.12's y'know....and it's WOUND!

^Nice to hear from you again, Tubadude.

Its not the bass thats scary, its wondering how much a new set of strings will cost.

strings would be a nightmare, i read somewhere (probably a ERB guy on myspace) that it cost the guy about 120 dollars for a pack of 8 strings for his bass.

and nice to be back.

You have to take into account tho: If you're as good a player as Jean, bass lutheirs are dying to advertise themselves using you, so of course you'd get discounts or free equip, and usually the people who USE Erb's are moderately wealthy (theyd have to be to afford one ) , so after buying a 2000-5000 dollar bass, the 120 for the pack of strings is nothing

But really, why?

Because... he uses all 12 strings to play well?

i think it looks nice. its not 1 of his more outstanding basses but its still a nice bass. especially the 3Dness of it.

I'll bet if he just put all his concentration into just four, five or six strings, he would kill.

Pianos have strings, as do harps. Just like tubadude said. Are you a drummer or something?

Well it has strings on the inside, but hammers hit the strings to make the sound... so iuno. I think I've heard it referred to as percussion, but it's kinda weird IMO.

No, just a little tired. I was thinking along the lines of guitar-like stringed stuff.

And apart from Keyboard, guitar and bass, I am a drummer.
