So I've got a pretty crappy Peavey Rage 158 practice amp, and I'm looking for something bigger, and better. I was looking at a bunch of solid state amps so I could have a multiple effects without having pedals, but I've recently decided I'd rather have a tube, and just buy effects pedals. My question is what would be a good tube amp for under $1000. I'm not super familiar with amps yet, but I'm trying to learn more, so if anyone could help me out I'd appreaciate it!

Edit: Nevermind, I read the FAQ. Sorry for being stupid! Don't worry about posting.

Well, I know you read the FAQ, but try out a JCM900 combo or stack. Great amps and are good for pretty much everything.

I started with a Peavey Rage 158 practice amp . I soon afterward moved to a Kustom KL-80(sp?), then a Crate Half-stack (was in a band at the time), then i wised up and bought a good tube combo (JCM900). Moral of the story...dont buy stuff you will regret within a year. All those were trade ins and stuff, all within a year. What type of music are you playing?

I'm playing a wide variety of stuff, Rush, Pink Floyd, Megadeth, Muse, Coheed, pretty much anything I like.

is megadeth and coheed about the heaviest stuff you play?
I'm an idiot and I accidentally clicked the "Remove all subscriptions" button. If it seems like I'm ignoring you, I'm not, I'm just no longer subscribed to the thread. If you quote me or do the @user thing at me, hopefully it'll notify me through my notifications and I'll get back to you.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

I'd say that you'd be well suited to a Traynor YCV50 Blue. As long as you aren't a metalhead (it's got good distortion, but it's not a Mesa). I have one, and I back it up. One of the best tube amps for under $1000. They go for about $750 and you'd have enough left over to buy a decent overdrive pedal to add some more gain to it. Here's a link:
