in the spirit of the best SG player thread, I wonderred, "who is the best player of the most common electric guitar ever?"

I nominate Stevie Ray Vaughan and David Gilmour

And let's stick to people who are known as Strat players, don't say "well Vai plays a Strat once in a while" or "Lifeson had a Strat which had one humbucker and a floyd, actually it was his verrsion of VanHalen's frankenstrat(lifeson's was called the sportscaster), and used no fender bits but I nominate him!!!!!"

Let's use only people with "fender" branded strats.

yeah, hendrix and malmsteen

i dont think you can single out on.

i think eric clapton or srv is the best blues player.

malmsteen is the best shredder/neo-clasical player.

hendrix is the best rock/soul player.

Obviously, no one could get a Strat to talk like Stevie Ray Vaughan. But no one gets one to scream like Yngwie Malmsteen. Mike McCready gets some great sounds out of his. Frusciante is good, but as a player, atleast as a soloist, I prefer McCready. McCready also doesn't rip off peoples riffs. My vote is for SRV, but since he's such a mountain, the real winner is Yngwie, since no one can compare to SRV, strat or no strat.

when you say best, do you mean most talent, or nicest to listen too. because malmsteen probably has the most talent, but i'd bloody kill myself if i had to listen to a whole cd of his. *myself*

frusciante is an amazing soloist live, you should see it he improvises almost everything... plus like i said a solid melody will beat a weak melody with an solid solo anyday

Yngwie used to be able to sing brilliantly when he was younger, now, not so much.

And I'd say Eric Johnson.
My name is Tom, feel free to use it.

I'd have to go with Malmsteen in skill but hard to say in terms of which player painted their music best with their strat. Didn't Malmsteen start when Hendrix died?

noone did more with a strat then stevie ray vaughn in my opinion.

i love hendrix, but stevie took hendrix's stuff to the next level. his version of little wing blows my mind everytime i hear it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0zy0lqpOyc&mode=related&search=stevie%20ray%20vaughn%20little%20wing

i could watch that performance all day.

as for whose actually the best i think its either hendrix, SRV, or malmsteen (even though i hate his music i respect what he does).

fruciante isn't in the same ballpark as SRV was

Hendrix is WAY above the rest.
then SRV, clapton, E. Johnson, frusciante (not as technically talented but creates good music)

malmsteen can be impressive for 6 seconds, after that it gets boring
#34
man.. so many legends come to mind...

i'd have to say SRV, Hendrix, or Clapton

Give 10 UGers a rope and ask them to pull. 4 will push, 1 will ask for buttsecks, 2 will tell you get an Ibanez and the last 3 will start complaining about Line6 Spiders.

truly frusciante may not play the most difficult stuff... but he can get technical (ive seen quite a few videos of him shredding well) but he prefers to be more laid back... but his covers of hendrix stuff is amazing and you can not say that under the bridge isnt a masterpiece
