Hey i was looking for a new guitar in the 500$ or less range. Ive been checking out epiphones and i might get a les paul standard. Anyone have any other guitars that would be good in that price range?

I have an Epiphone G400, absolutely love it, really plays nice and I love everything about it, could probably pick it up for around 400 or so on musicians friend, definetly check it out!

It really depends on what kind of music you want to play. The epiphone series has a great variety to choose from based on what you play. I have a Les Paul classic which has coils that are a little hotter than the standard, which i personally like.

i would recommend the Fender HSS Stratocaster, the Epiphone Les Paul Standard, or the Fender Standard Telecaster. I personally have the HSS Strat, but i tried out all three and it all depends on what ur looking for.

I'm really into Epiphone's hollowbodies, such as their Casinos, Rivieras, and Sheratons. Those are really some amazing guitars in their price range.

Look at Tokai guitars (might be a bit too expensive though, look at a pre-owned one), washburn, ibanez, or agile. All good guitar companies that make guitars that should be in your price range. And as Kartman said, Epi hollowbodies are bloody good guitars- their high end models wipe the floor with gibsons from what i've head
My gear;

Custom HSS Strat (eBay'ed parts)
Fender Acoustic
DOD EQ
EH Big Muff
Home-made Wah
Home-made Booster
Laney LC15

I love my epi lp and the other epiphones I have tried have been pretty good. You should also consider fenders, they are in your price range.

If you're looking for a Les Paul specifically, I would check out www.rondomusic.net. For $369 plus shipping, you could get yourself a really nice Agile AL-3000 that will pretty much ass-rape any Epiphone costing double that price. Add another few bucks and get a case, and you're still ahead in terms of money. They're incredibly good guitars for the money. They're well built with good quality woods and components. And they both play and sound very nice. I've had mine for almost 2 years and it's still my main guitar for just about everything, despite the much higher caliber brand-name and custom shop guitars that make up the rest of my collection.

Most of their high end Agiles have sold out and the only 3000 models left are the slim taper neck and gold tops. I'm not sure when Rondo are going to get more. But for the money, you will NOT get a better built guitar from anyone else.
Guitars: Custom Lado Earth 2000-3, Custom ESP Explorer, BC Rich KKV, Gibson LP Studio, Greco SG, El Degas Stratocaster, Agile AL-3000, LTD EX-351
