is it just me or is the chinese scale the same as a pentatonic scale...and if it is different please tell me what it is

Yeah it is. One scale I play to get that asian sound is the F# Major Pentatonic, which is also the Eb Minor Pentatonic scale. But to get the best sound I usually play from the F# root, making it the F# Major Pentatonic. But since all scales have the same integers, you can get that same sound with any major pentatonic scale, it just depends how you play them.

Chinese Scale: 1 - 3 - #4 - 5 - 7.
Minor Pentatonic: 1 - b3 - 4 - 5 - b7.
Major Pentatonic: 1 - 2 - 3 - 5 - 6.

It is a pentatonic scale in the sense it contains 5 different notes within one octave - but it isn't the same as your primary pentatonic scales.
