What amp is good for classic rock (think Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc.)? I've checked out Fenders and Marshalls and the like. Something in the sub $500 range.

Probably better off to get an OD since it's tube (Isn't it?)

have a look at the avt range. In your price range and have valves so sound pretty good. I have the 150 half stack. Love it

My peavey classic 50, and it is 500 shipped. Does the best classic rock you will be able to get for sub 500.

No don't! AVT's aren't good. For the price you might get a used JCM. If you get a Marshall get an all tube one.

blues J.r seems good, but also check out the Laney VC-30, its based on a Vox Ac-30 which both Sotnes used (in teh early days) and the Beatles.

I got a C30 on eBay, I'm very happy for the 320 bucks I paid. I've heard the C30 is a bit nicer than the C50, but I haven't played the 50 watter personally.

Peavey amps are typically nice for the price.

Either get a Fender Blues Jr (+overdrive pedal) or a Laney VC30.
