I just literally bought my first bass guitar, and I don't have a clue how to play it compared to the guitar.

Could someone please tell me a good starting point to learn from.

Thanks.

I would start with learning the major and minor scale. Learning the notes on the fingerboard would than be your next step. The chromatic scale will help with your fingers and their playing ability. Eventually you will want to learn some basic music theory so you can write music/jam with friends, etc. Another good way to improve your skill is to learn a song that is moderately hard to play. Practice it till it easy, than learn another song that is a little bit harder. Keep going along this process and your playing ability will greatly improve. I hope this info helps.
(you can find any of the scales, notes, etc anywhere on the net or here at UG)
