-Request from the bassist in my band-

He is going to buy a new amp for his bass, his price range is 300-400 USD and our band plays rock/indie/alternative. (Think Guns n' Roses, The cure, The strokes and anything in between) His budget CAN'T exceed $400.

Thanks.

that should be a good amp for him, that will last for a pretty long time...real powerful and reliable amp.

if the band is ready for gigs, i recommend a used amp, in this price range. SWR, Peavey, GK, and Ampeg, just to name a few. i also recommend at least a 100watt amp, and a 15", or 4x10" cab. a new amp(only combos) in this price range will not keep up for long, and will never be worth more than 1/2 of what you paid. used is the way to go. imo.

Edit: the Ashdown amp listed above looks like a decent deal.

This amp is fine because it will more than likely have an 8 ohm speaker allowing you to add another cab later giving you the equivelant of a stack.

David Eden amps are by far my favorite. They have so much growl and tone, its unbelievable. They just redid their Nemesis line of amps, and I have yet to play them. However, the old Eden Nemesis combos where awsome. MetalUpTheAss was about to buy one a while back. Eden amps never lose tone when the volume is up high, and the signal never breaks up. If you can fork over the extra $50, then go with this amp.

The Ashdown that XeNoCiDe mentioned is also a great amp. I'm not a huge ashdown fan, since Ashdown amps are a little too boomy and bright for me. They have almost no midrange. That tone would be great for your style, though.

I've got an Ashdown MAG 210T-300 with an ashdown 115 to complete the stack.
It's all you'll ever need.

That I was, while I'm sure it would have been simply amazing, there were none around to try which is why I ultimately didn't.

Is that amp any good for funk? In essence does it have a good sound when you slap?
