This has a rock-ballad sound I think. I tried to break the lines in the same places they break in the song.

ELEGY OF A CHILDHOOD LOST

A hole opened up inside of me
out welled the pain of everything
a thousand deaths of possibilities
an army of grieving mothers pour their tears into me
they came to comfort me but their sadness burns
and so I've learned
to retreat into the deapths of me
and all the voices blame me for your memory

and nobody's home
when I'm left all alone
just me watching these
technicolor dreams
of how it used to be

I am standing inside myself
waist-deep in pain I have felt
a thousand times
since my childhood died
on my bedroom floor
yet I'm still alive
an army of angry fathers only seal my fate
where self-hate
becomes flesh wounds and scar tissue
and I want so badly for this not to be true

and nobody's home
when I'm left all alone
just me watching these
technicolor dreams
of how it used to be

I found you in my history
left to sit in a box of memories
things my body can't seem to forget
the smell of your breath
lying on your mattress
and you looked just as I saw you in my mind
from a time
I tried to forget the ways you know me
but your faded photo brings so much back to me

and nobody's home
when I'm left all alone
just me watching these
technicolor dreams
and nobody's home
when I'm left all alone
just me watching these
technicolor dreams
of how it used to be
