i can only comment on the steve vai legacy, brilliant amp.

carvin produces some very high quality products, whether it be amps or guitars

Well would they be good for metal. Stuff like pantera, metallica, and all the other standard metal bands.

The MTS could get you to metal, maybe a pedal would help. Great quality, great sounding amps from Carvin. Cheap for what they are too. Nice buy.
It's a fine line between clever and stupid.
