i just started jamming with a drumer and a keyboard player but i really don't know how to jam. i know it sounds silly but this is new to me and whenever we try to play something it sounds like a big mess.

1 use a metronome
2 make sure each instrument knows exactly what to play
3 have fun with it!

do you just want to jam or make music, make sure everyone knows what it is that youre playing or want to play jaming is alll about timeing too so id get a metronome unless the drummer can flow pretty well.

^Er... isn't the whole purpose of jamming the opposite? Not knowing what to play and letting the musical ideas present themselves... improvising.

a meternome in jamming? I think not start off one by one... for IE

You play a basic rhythm part

Let drummer feel for it , get a beat

Keyboard solo over it...

then you and keys switch!

Follow the Jazz rule. One instrument highlighted at a time, the others providing a base to go off of. It won't usually work if everyone is trying to be in the spotlight at the same time.

When Jamming les is more. Just play a few notes with feeling can sound just as good or better than bunch of messy ones.

Make sure your in the same key. Have the drummer play a simple drum beat, than have the keyboard come in with a little rhythm part, while you improvise. Than, you play a rhythm part and he improvises. Than the drummer does a solo or something just so he can feel good.

That's what I was thinking. Maybe he meant when people are writing music and playing it.
