what is the deal with the gearbox and the ableton live lite software? does one of them record? and if i bought sony acid software would i still need one of those?
Gearbox is the control center for the modeling process of the Toneport. That's how you dial in your amp settings. Acid is just a recording program, but Audacity works very well with the toneport and its free.
ACID is actually a loop arrangement program that some people use for recording, it really isnt designed as a recording studio type program. Depending on how good your soundcard is you may or may not need the toneport. And the version of Ableton Live they bundle with it sucks and once again Ableton Live is a program that isnt really designed for recording.
