Hey yall ive been playing for 8 months, and right now i can play stuff by AC/DC and Guns N' Roses and stuff along those lines. Im taking lessons and know a bunch of scales, notes, a little theory, and chords now. I want to build up picking speed. Do you guys know any good excersises for this? Or should i just practice scales for that? I want to play stuff by Lamb of God . Most of ther stuff as a quick open D/E string between other notes. I dont know what this style of playing is called, but it sounds cool, and i would like to play some of their stuff .

Variations of the pentatonic can help build picking speed.

That helps a bit with fret and picking hand.

For accuracy you can always do the old standby of string skipping

If you're already doing stuff like that then just keep at it. You build speed through muscle memory, so repetitiveness will help. Always try to push yourself to play faster than before (as long as you can remain accurate).

Remember not to rush into speed. If you play accurately, speed will come to you.

Try chromatics! Which is basically 1-2-3-4 on each string. You can also try variations like 1-3-2-4, 1-4-3-2, etc..
