ok. well i can play pretty good while sitting down, but every time I try playing while standing its extremely awkward.

and yes i have tried adjusting my strap every which way.

my question is do you know of anyways (besides practicing) that will get me better at it? or even just make it less awkward?

No, I usually play just as fine standing up.

I guess you just need to practice standing up for now.

I had the same problem for awhile, it just takes a bit of adjustment. Try playing with your guitar on your left knee instead of your right (or right instead of left if you are left handed), I've heard that position is closer to the way your guitar lies on your body when standing up.

how long have you been playin? takes a while to get used to playin sittin and standin comfortably

yeah, play it on your left knee like you would a classical guitar

yeah like craigr said put your guitar on your left knee rather than right and adjust the strap so that there isent any slack while your playing sitting down or mabey just a few inches i dont understand the whole playing with the guitar around your knees thing its the most retarted thing if ever heard of or seen

Yea, but that doesn't work forever, you can't do that for a whole gig. I'm sorry threadstarter, the only thing you can do is practice. Play with the guitar up closer to your chest, "Beatles" style, that is closer to the position that the guitar is in when you sit.

well, I started playing standing up earlier than that & I've never had any problems (unless the strap's like, at my knees)

But I figure, try adjusting ur strap at different heights, but play for say, a 1/2 hour to an hour at each setting. The one that seems most comfortable will be the way to go. After that, playing with it at that height all the time will just become more & more natural with time of course...

just practice doin it and it will get more comfortable.

cuz if your in a band, you definitely dont want to play shows sitting down.

i had the exact same problem, 2 ways i corrected it

1. i practiced standing up and it got less awkward
2. i quit trying to play with the guitar down low at first i thought it looked cool and i would watch trivium music videos and try to mimic the way matt heafy stood which looking at the thread starters name i see you like trivium and if your trying to play with the guitar down like that find a more comfortable way
