Yes, with some effort.

I haven't been up to date with it, though. It takes a lot of practice and dedication to keep it fresh. Not exactly like riding a bike... imo...

it took you 15 consecutive hours of practice to realize that playing guitar makes you better at playing guitar. congratulations.

Yeah, I played sax in the school band years ago. I could sight-read on the sax but no way I could on a guitar. Especially now that I barely use it with the ease of tabs. If I wanted to learn a song that I could only find the sheet music for, I could more than likely transfer it to guitar without too much stress.

I'm much more fluent in bass clef then treble, so I guess I'm somewhere in the middle. I rarely read treble so it takes more time for me then with bass where reading it is instantaneous, just like reading words.
#21
I can if i have to but i have to work it out as i only know where middle c is. I forgot the rest.
#22
yea, but havent read any notated music in over a year and i've forgotten alot of it.

I can sight read for any brass instrument, but not for guitar. If I need to play sheet music for guitar I usually have to jot in a lot of notes about which scales are being used, position changes etc. Traditional notation does not work as well for guitar as other instruments because the guitar is one of the only instruments where you can play the exact same note on several strings. I know I'd get better if I practiced it more often, I'm just so used to using notation to play brass instruments that can only play one note at a time.
#26
kindA. i took guitar lessons, but i forgot most of that sh*t when i was taking the lessons. i know a couple notes, but other than that no.
I was living a lie, now I'm dying to know the truth...

I can.
Its pretty easy really. It don't take long to learn, you can teach yourself and as long as you practice a bit you can remember it.

Yes, but very very slow. I learned learning it mostly from william leavit's modern method for guitar... its a very good book, try it
#31
yeah, i can

i think everyone who is a pro at guitar, (ie making a living out of it,) or any other instrument should be able to read it. once you get the hang of it it's quite easy.

I can read it, but I can't play guitar from it. The problem's that I don't know what note all the frets on the guitar are. 6 strings, 22 frets plus opens ... thats 138 notes to learn!

not necessarily because the same pitch can occur more than once on the neck of the guitar

i don't feel like doing the math, but neh

I have taken classical and jazz guitar lessons and I had to learn it. The only time I really use it anymore is when I'm writing a song, other than that I read tabs. However, occasionally, I'll read notated music just to knock the rust off.
#35
Nope. I'm taking grade 9 music so I will learn it. I do fine with tabs, but as soon as I start playing the sax I will need it.

I'm great at bass clef from playing euphonium for four years. Treble I can do, but I'm nowhere near as good. I know all the rhythms and symbols though, so I'm decent.
