I've been playing guitar for a little over a year on my dad's old 70's Gibson SG, but it's more of a collector's item than a great guitar so I'm getting a new one.

I play alternative rock and 80's metal, nothing really soft but no screaming music.

Price range is $150-$400, maybe a little bit more if it's really worth it.

Fender Standard Stratocaster

Washburn (any lower end guitar)

They're both worth it and they suit your style.
My gear:

MIJ Squier Stratocaster

Washburn WR150 Quilted Top

Oscar Schmidt Semi-hollow Delta King

Epiphone Hummingbird

Amps: Fender Eighty-Five

get an epiphone lp standard or a fender strat standard. u should probably just keep the price range around 300-400 insted of 100-400 because u wont get anything good from 100-299

I'd say a Epiphone Les Paul. You can get a black one for under $400 but the rest of the colors have you paying $500.
