I have searched and found no threads about this great band so here you are. One of my favourite bands and Carlos D is one of my favourite bassists.

great band, lovely in many ways. Also the ultimate band to dance to, just fantastic.

TOTBL >>>>> ANTICS (i didn't like antics much though the singles were very good indeed).

interesting fact that i found out on wikipedia recently, Interpol's guitarist intial started the band with Paul Drudy (sp?) who went on to be in Hot Cross. Which is quite cool.

obstacle 1 = best video ever.

Turn on the bright lights is a good album.

I don't think these guys are amazing, but they're good and have a big Joy Division influence. I dig Joy Division, so I dig these guys.
And yet, to me, what is this quintessence of dust? Man delights not me: no, nor woman neither... nor women neither.
#5
They're ok. TOTBL is indeed better than Antics, but I never really enjoyed them very much.
#7
I LOVE Interpol!

Yes, they may have a "Joy Division" type influence, but they still have their own style and that to which I really respect and love.

Antics was pretty good, but yea, TOTBL was actually much better.

Wow I actually didn't know that.

I really dig Interpol a lot though.

Yeah, Interpol are great, one of the best bands since the turn of the century IMO.

My favourite songs of theirs are actually off of Antics.
#12
Awesome band, wouldn't mind seeing them live. It doesn't seem like it would be a regular show though, their music seems too calm. I just love their stage presence though.

When I first heard them I though they were boring due to the slow tempo and repetetive guitars but then I started to really listen to the bass and realised that was the beauty of it. I've said it before and I'll say it again CARLOS D FTW!!

Does anyone know where I can download a good version of Cubed? (Not Mascara, I have that)
#14
Turn On The Bright Lights is one of my favourite albums of the last 5 years. Antics was a bit...meh.

But good band, anyway.
#17
Turn On The Bright Lights in my opinion is the best album of this decade so far. Carlos D is indeed an amazing bassist, and Antics, although quite good does not compare to TOTBL.

I should also mention that along with Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Carlos D. is also a DJ and tends to be in some good clubs from time to time spinning on the 1's and 2's. I saw him at the Avalon quite sometime ago and I love the songs he played.

I suggest you get yourself some girls and guys and head on over to a club where Carlos D. might be DJ'ing. Totally worth it.

Carlos D is a great bassist, i love interpol they are one of my favourite bands.
PDA, Obstacle 1, Slow Hands and Evil are my favourites
#21
Turn on the Bright Lights is an amazing record. Antics is too watered down, and doesn't have the same intensity as the first album. As for the Joy Divison comparisons, I don't really get them as Joy Division focused more on bass and drums whereas Interpol incorporates multiple guitar lines. Editors and She Wants Revenger are much closer to Joy Division then Interpol are.

Hard to stomach?

How so?

Dont get me wrong, they're a great band, but some of their songs, ie PDA and Specialist, just don't do it for me.

I listened to a couple of Joy Division songs that happened to be on my computer as you were all talking about them and I can see a definite influence on one of the songs. The only song of the two that reminded me of Interpol was Dead Souls which sounds very much like Interpol. Then again that doesn't mean anything bad for Interpol or that Interpol were copying (I realise noone is actually saying that, it's just the Radiohead/Muse problem comes to mind). The bass, the drums, the guitar, the singing on that song all sound almost identical.

Personally, I think that Joy Division completely pwns Interpol.

Anyone else excited for Control? It's going to be a movie about Ian Curtis's life. Should be great.

ah, turn on the bright lights just seems to have more feeling and mood than antics does, with the exception of "take you on a cruise" "not even jail" and "narc". love those songs.

I agree, there's more variety in turn on the bright lights; although the songs in antics are nice, they're not really all that memorable.
#34
I got both albums at the same time and play them both together on shuffle (with those rarities albums now too) so I never knew the difference between TotBL and Antics.

to me, interpol sounds more like rem, vocal wise, than anyone. the joy division comparison is just funny.

and it's not official, but http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/page/news/Interpol_Sign_to_Capitol

Arghhhh, does this mean Interpol are now modern rock?

Oh yeah I understand, by the way I didnt mean for what I said to come off as a dickish like "well what the **** is wrong with you" kind of a thing, I was just curious as to what exactly you meant. But now I get it.

And now that I think about it I actually get what you mean, there are a few songs to me that are just like "eh... errrmmmm... guys?"
I play guitar

Good old Interpol. Has anyone else heard all the remixes and rarities. You can get them in a package through bittorrent. I also take credit for getting the threadstarter into this fine band.

Why should I be excited? I already know how it ends. Just kidding, yeah, I'm looking forward to it.
