Then challenge them to a duel.

Check it out guys... its new & improved...
https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=58

Just make sure that you put your contest(s) in the right sub-forum. If its a bit confusing... don't worry, I'll move it to the right one.

If you do want to have any contests, then you can "advertise" them here by placing a link to the thread in the other sub forum.

Pretty cool but I don't want to enter and lose and everyone thinks I suck.

Please, don't start this... This serves no purpose, and turns out to be a bunch of jibba-jabba, like "Oh, imma post mines in a week"!

The Russian bass forum here does it like this. We rent out a club, and everybody who wishes to participate signs up. Then we all either get to Moscow or St. Petersburg, have beers, discuss gear, and perform live, either solo, or with a band.

Internet here is only TURNING to be a rathole of lies, and is still populated mostly by the decent folk.

WTF? There are liars and cheats everywhere, but they're usually caught quickly on UG.... I know... we've caught a few people claiming songs to be their own that were not... and we took care of it pronto.

If you guys don't want to challenge each other, or whatever.... Look around in the R&R forum. I just came across a thread where someone is looking for a decent bassist to record with.

Damn... bassists have some harsh attitudes. Maybe you should lighten up a bit and learn to live a little.

Fella, I'm as light as light could be, but we *had* a "bass war" here which turned out to be now a straightforward challenge, but a load of BS like: "My mom locked me bass away, so I can't play it imma post in a week". And of course, he wouldn't post.
Actually, I'm the opposite of harsh. I just don't like BS. If there's a competition - COMPETE, but not friggin orally!

you're right there Bassilo, but this isn't bass wars, so if they don't post, it doesn't slow us all down. so lazy bastards liek myself can say 'omgz my strong snapped then my truss warped and my bridge oxidised and my cable is broke' and everyone won't give 2 ****s

Its all good. I'm not a regular in the bass forum... even though I play one. I play a multitude of instruments... but that's not the point here.

There is a forum where you can have a contest without any BS... plus there is one thread under Covers in R&R where someone is practically begging for a bassist to collab with.

Why not look around and get into some of the other forums. You might find something you like.

^ I'm not. This is what Bassilo was talking about?

How about a contest on who can create the best bassline with only two notes? if you wanna post, post. if you dont, you can sit on the sidelines and judge.

anyone up for it?

i'll say now i am away all weekend at V festival larging it up, but when i am back i'll have a go..

Do octaves count as the same note in this contest?

Well, yea, but....

I dunno, it just gives you a fair few more options.

This tread is cool, bassilo is correct tho, but if ppl are goin to BS cant the people who takin it seriously just ignore them? Its childish moaning, just use the thread as u will.

Anyway, i have question out apple's riff challenge:

Can we use Ghost note/muffled string whatever u wanna call them? O, and bends? i know they move a note higher, but its on the same fret....?

EDIT: can we use effects?

OK, here are the rules to Appleheads Two Note Challenge:

1. ONLY two notes are allowed. An octave is the same note, so you can use them.

2. You cannot bend the note, because it is no longer that note anymore. If you bend the note, you are not allowed to use another one.

3. Ghost notes are allowed, because they have no pitch and are percussive

4. Effects are allowed, if you so desire

5. You can use a drum track.

6. Entries must be no longer than 30 seconds. If you cant say what you've got to say in that time, we dont want to hear it.

7. Enjoy!
#28
2 questions:
do the two notes have to be established before the competition?

is the competition like a duel or is it one big field where anyone can post their own submission in the thread?
#29
How come I get called out first? I'm making no promises on my entry, but I'm going to a town with a Radio Shack tomorrow, I'll stop buy and pick up a 1/4 to 1/8 jack so I can record. After I get that done I'll hit you up in a pm and we'll discuss details.
#31
^I don't think recording quality should matter, hoenstly. I went to Radio-Shack and bought the converter yesterday so I'm ready to record. Just let me put the finishing touches on my drum track and I'll lay it down. Are there any two specific notes that we have to use, or is it just up to each of us individually?
#32
what about hammer ons? does the open string count as one of your notes? id like to do this as well

ONLY two notes, peanut! And open string is a note, so it counts as one. Hammer if you like, but you've used a note up. I've been playing around and i think i am going to do mine in E, and use the E on the A string so i can use the Open e string to bounce off.

FbSa and myself have changed out format to the old school Bass Wars style. I'll have the thread up in a minute for your voting pleasure.

Edit: It has begun! Only 3 days to vote people. Get your rear ends over to the thread and make you decision. Also, remember to explain why you voted like you did.
