In audacity I want to shift my recorded track up 1 octave. How many semitones are in an octave?

Also, my friend and I want to record Take on me by A Ha, we want to know how to achieve the sound in the intro, but on guitar. I can do this in audacity, but how many semitones up do I mix in with the original sound?

Ive never heard of that song, but the 12th note on any string is the octave of that open string..so to bring up the octave up from e, count on your fretboard, every fret equals a semitone. 12 semitons up, or 6 full steps up, gives you an octave. Unless I counted wrong o.o
