Petrucci has some pretty fast stuff. Not the fastest, but the best (at least in my opinion). That's my two cents worth.

Everyone knows petrucci can play 4 billion notes per second, but when he does, people die.

soloing's not about speed. it's about feel.

but fastest soloist? van halen i guess. eruption.

Dude, not even close. Petrucci, Vai, Cooley, etc... put him to shame in speed.

Eddie Van Halen can solo fast and make it sound good. It doesn't just sound like a bunch of random notes. It's actually music

if you went into the shred forum and tried to ask about any guitarist who doesn't play 20 nps you'd get blasted....flamed....and told to leave.

so how bout we have the same standard here just the opposite.

vai and satch are cool. johnson is cool. malmsteen is some of the worst stuff i've ever heard. it literally hurts my ears to hear him bend a note then do 20 nps down and bend another note....go 20 nps to another note....etc. etc. etc.

we're not talking about good here, we're talking about pure speed, but i do agree, that even though yngwie is a great guitarist, he isn't so good at the way he writes some of his riffs

Bull****.

You'll get blasted, flamed and told to leave if you try to use stupid arguments like "emotion" in there.

And please, shut the hell up when it's just ****ing obvious that you haven't a clue what you're talking about. Malmsteen is a great composer, and his Concerto Suite is a testament to this. Even though he gets carried away live, the man is a very capable composer. I'm not even much of a Yngwie fan, but it's just obvious that you're talking out of your arse.
My name is Tom, feel free to use it.

actually after watching those videos, which were amazingly funny, i think i'd name petrucci as the fastest.
