any of the free software like Audacity or Kristel will work as long as your mic is configured correctly in windows. As an aside though, it's really hard to get a good recording with a computer mic. If you're trying to mic an amp, the Shure SM57 is basically the standard that even the pros use. The best results I've found are using the SM57 with a preamp or mixer, then into your soundcard or USB/Firewire interface depending on the preamp/mixer. I've also heard people go directly into the soundcard with the SM57 and XLR to 1/8" adapter, but it didn't sound as good as using a preamp/mixer.
