What band has inspried you to maybe change how you are or the music you play?
How strange is it to be anything at all

All of my influences over the years include:

Nirvana - Got me started initially
Jimi Hendrix - Got me doing a little more advanced guitar work
Metallica - Got me playing a bit faster
Marty Friedman - Opened up my horizon entirely, helped me hone a distinct style, got me playing faster and more expressively, made me want to fuse a lot of things together and be open minded.

Originally, GNR. But now it's more Iron Maiden, Megadeth etc...Lots of metal acts.

O forget the reason i picked up my guitar, they werent very good, might have something to do with it? lol
#9
I started playing guitar because of Tom Morello and John Frusciante, I wanted to be able to play some of that crazy crap they do... For a band, probably SOAD.. I already thought and had a lot of the same manerisms as Daron, and I just love the way they write songs...

One of the most original guitarists on the planet i think. Marty Friedman and Jason Becker are the most talented guitar duo ever...imo.

In rock, I think so anyways. I like Marty's songs a lot because they sound like actual songs instead of a backing track with a guitar solo for 5 minutes. That shit bores me. He demonstrated how to really use guitar in a way that can appealing to anyone, not just guitar players. Plus his style is god-like. And Jason and Marty's stuff in Cacophony are awesome too because they were metal, but with a really positive and fun vibe, something you don't get to see too often.

Guns N' Roses, Kieth Nelson (Buckcherry) - got me more into blues, Hendrix - got me more into blues, Zakk Wylde - Blues and penatonics, Dime(RIP) - showed me that anything is possible with a guitar, there are too many to list them all
Now officially has too much gear to list

PM me if you want to know about my recording setup

Tom Morello made me want to pick up a guitar. as for my style now, August Burns Red has got me playing faster more difficult metalcore type stuff

Originally Kurt Cobain (Nirvana) but Yngwie Malmsteen's style of play influenced me so much and it's taken years (obviously) to learn to play like that.

Rufio (specifically guitarist Clark Domae) got me into guitar and music at first... then after expanding my interests out of emo/pop punk... AC/DC, Thrice, Avenged Sevenfold, and a bunch of not-so-well-known bands on purevolume.com

I think Iron Maiden and Megadeth are the two biggest inspirations to me

Pantera and Iron Maiden were the two main reasons I wanted to play guitar. When Dimebag died, a part of the child in me died with him.

i loved coldplay's older acoustic songs alot, thats what made me pick up guitar. Then I started to be a strict classic rocker and listen to Zeppelin and AC/DC, that got me into more guitar driven music. Then I started to get into modern rock like RATM and RHCP, which showed me that guitar could be used in many styles. Now I am influenced by Satch and Vai and those types because i appreciate how they have truly mastered guitar. I still listen to everything I have mentioned.
My Gear:
Gibson Les Paul Standard
Cort X-2 hahaha
Dean Tradition One
Ibanez Soundgear SR505 (five stringer)
Marshall MG 250DFX
Marshall MG 10CD
Digitech GNX4
Digitech DF-7 Distortion
A bunch of cables.

I would have to say no doubt, back in their early days. Tony Kanal is a madman on the bass.
#34
Nirvana - got me in the creative state of mind.

Metallica - got me in the fast paced, ass kickin, brain meltin state of mind. HELL YA
#35
I have pretty generic influences:

Guitar:

Jimmy Page- Watching the led zeppelin DVD got me to switch from bass to guitar
Jimi hendrix- this is pretty much self explanatory
Santana- listen to Toussaint L'Overture. Nuff said.
Dave Gilmour- you can sing along to everyone of his solos
Angus Young- no one can play like him. Something about his vibrato and phrasing
Django Reinhardt- got me playing jazz

Songwriting:

Bob Dylan-Best Lyricist Ever
Woody Guthrie-made me realize what music is essentially about
The Beatles- the songs they wrote are just unbelievable

The Who got me into music and Jimmy Page was the first guy I really listened to and made me realize how essential a guitarist was
But The Who are one of the most talented groups ever Baba O'Riley is the best song and seems to describe the teenage life

Originally I think it was Tom Morello, but now definitely Metallica, Tool and Porcupine Tree.
