Hysteria- Muse. everyone tries it at some point if they like rock, most people love you if you can play it even sloppily.

And another one bites the dust. obviously.

There has been some confusion about who created the song's famous bassline. John Deacon said (in Japanese magazine Musiclife in 1982, and in the previously mentioned French magazine) that David Bowie had created it. In more recent interviews, Queen guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor have credited the bass riff to Deacon; Bowie also said on his website that the bassline was already written before he became involved. In any case, the September 2005 edition of online music magazine Stylus singled out the bassline as the best in popular music history.

A recent study shows that 8% of teenagers listen to nothing but music with guitars in it. Put this in your sig if you're one of the 92% who isn't a close-minded moron.

Smoke on the Water (even though that's a guitar riff, but w/e) by Deep Purple (it's easy and therefore popular)
Iron Man by Black Sabbath
N.I.B. by Black Sabbath (personal fave including the solo)
and maybe that riff from In A Gadda Da Vida (just the main riff, not the rest of the 17 min song)

I agree Gotta be hysteria is a amazing riff if you can nail it aswell as the chorus which is v.good.
Another good one by muse is the groove
NIB is also very good
But one I play the most is all of aeroplane even my non musical friends love it
Naked in the rain solo Ive heard that played crapply a few times
#16
Probaly hysteria. Once people learn that they think there awesome! And it usually leads them to harder material and become better bassists. Awesome bass line, sonds great through a fuzz setting on a Boss OBD-3

Either "Peace Sells...But Who's Buyin?" buy Megadeth or "For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Metallica.

Toolbass dude clarified the bassline. If you mean the song itself, it was by "Queen featuring David Bowie". You can clearly ID who's voice is who's in the song.

none of these basslines are popular with the general public at all.

Under Pressure - Queen
Master Blaster - Stevie Wonder
Billie Jean - Michael Jackson
Another One Bites the Dust - Queen
Two Tribes - Frankie Goes To Hollywood
Lets Dance - David Bowie
Good Times - Chic
Staying Alive - Bee Gees
I want You Back - Jackson 5
ABC - Jackson 5

THESE are popular basslines with the public. Not many members of the general public will know "Throw Away Your Television" if you play it to them.

damn mainstream popularity.... it's bassists like those that bring down bassists like us....

in my area, Hysteria is a popular one, as is By the Way and Schism.... but then again, that could just be the group of people I spend more time with...
