would it work to put a phase switch on a humbucker with a chrome cover?
Well, you don't put the phase switch ON the humbucker, but yes it's possible.
does anything special have to be done to make it work?
You have to wire the humbucker up to the phase switch to the rest of the electronics, so besides some soldering and wiring, no not really.
ok. cool. the reason i ask is because i read somewhere that u cant put pickups out of phase if they have a chrome cover but perhaps i misread.
I don't think the chrome will mess with the polarity that much. XD
Yeah, all pickups work the same. I mean, the covers cover up some of the treble in a pickup, but it won't nix all opportunities to put it in and out of phase.
Whats a phase switch?
^It messes with pickup polarity to give either that classic deep humbucker sound or a super trebley medium/low output signal that is just awesome! (Though it does buzz. :/ )
With 4 conductor 'buckers, probably, as it has it's own seperate shield wire. With 2 cunductor it's a bit tricky, cause I believe the shield is the same wire as the negative (ground), so making the hot go through it will make the shield hot, also making the chrome cover hot? I think. Could be wrong.
