Check the thread up top named 'emo essentials', you'll enjoy most off the first list in the 1990s

I think it's really weird how the nature of emo music as far as lyrics/style has changed since the 90s, when there were bands like Texas is the Reason, Elliott, etc. Emo has turned into something totally different, and now there are bands like taking back sunday, and brand new that actually sound pop-punk...yet they're considered emo bands...So now emo is basically about crashing cars and killing yourself, and bleeding. And when TITR was playing, they basically sounded just like slower punk and the lyrics were just emotional and not suicidal at all...Weird...

Fugazi, Rites of Spring, Embrace, Texas is the Reason, Jawbreaker, Jets to Brazil, Sunny Day Real Estate, Capn Jazz, and my personal favorite: the Promise Ring. If you like Sunny Day Real Estate, I guarantee you will like Promise Ring too.

And Led Zeppelin is highly overrated and really just an all-around crap band. Emo is better than Classic Rock, and it's nothing like the bashers try to make it sound. That's my opinion.

EDIT:And to the_Astronaut: I have been meaning to tell you how much I like your sig. I have that album on vinyl.

Yeah, I'm partial to some classic emo.

SDRE are my favourite band in that category I suppose.

Been listenening to Indian Summer a good bit lately, I thought they'd be meh but I'm really enjoying it.

You know, I really haven't listened to much emo from the 90's which is weird because that's when emo was, well emo. But I intend on checking these bands out.

Man, I really need to stop listening to Brand New exclsuively.

classic emo and pop punk were great, but most modern music in both genres is crap (or so i think)

It's the truth.

Just like Emo, there is some great rap, and some complete **** rap.

That goes for pretty much every genre of music.

Can someone respond to what I said, on reply #15 on this thread please? I have been really confused about this emo thing for a long time and it's driving me crazy... Is 2000s emo different than the emo of the 1990s???
