i was wondering if the guage of wire matters. i want to install a killswitch and i want to know if i need a special guage of wire. so......do I?

For something like this-no. I like 22 or 24 guage for guitars.

ok, but what do you mean, "for this project"? are there some things guitar-related you need certain wire guages for?

No, for a signal as small as a guitar, pretty much anything is fine. Just keep in mind, thinner wire is easier to work with for the most part.

By saying "for something like this" I mean if you're wiring up a guitar amp or something.
