I was wondering to see if this is really true. I have friends who play guitar and yeah they are really good but most of them don't really do that well in school. I asked some of my other friends at another school and they said that most people who are either in a band or spend a lot of time practicing an instrument get terrible grades. I'm sure that's not the case for all people but it seems to be true seeing how so many famous artists either barely passed or didn't finish school at all. I can see how if you spend a lot of time practicing you wouldn't really have time study or anything like that. So just wondering if any of you get bad grades or know people who do because they practice an instrument day and night.
Oh f*ck it,
I'm gonna have a party.
I had the blankest year,
I watched life turn into a TV show.
It was totally weird.

I could see how somebody could get bad grades from practicing, but i practice alot and my grades are fine.

Meh, I get A's and B's.

Ha, and ironic that today I learned Yngwie dropped out of school when he was 15.

Almost all my friends that play instruments get either mediocre grades or crap, but i get good grades and practice day in and day out on 3 seperate insruments. I personally think it's just lazyness, the people that want to try to get good grades will and the ones that dont care simply will not get the grades.

I spend 95% of my day playing guitar and I'm a straight A student. The whole "guitarists-get-bad-grades" thing is just a sterotype. It might be true for some people, but stereotypes will always be true for some people, which is why they're steroetypes. My parents love using this one to try and stop me from playing so much.

And most famous guitarists drop out of high school because they have their minds made up on being guitarists.

Look at Tom Morello: he went to Harvard and look at what he does now.
#17
I play every day for at least two hours during the school year and I still got a 95 average for my freshman year. Although, haven't there been studies showing that music students do better in school?

Edit:
Although, I think all of the Poser guitarists, the emo and punk kids who think they can play their Behringers with an ounce of talent, that think it's cool to slack off and not do crap. I think that's where it comes from.

I mostly get A's and B's, a few C's here and there, and I've been playing guitar for about four years. There are a lot of kids at my school that are quite good at guitar and don't do very well academically, but I would actually attribute that to all the pot smoking they do.
#19
I play guitar as much as possible yet I managed all A's on the last report card, save French and History marks which were in the B's.
#21
i get straight A's and i'm the mother****ing class president. and once some scientists hooked up my guitar to a computer, and it was supposed to say all the notes i was playing, but i was playing so fast and so many notes per second that the computer couldn't keep up and it got really hot and started making a lot of noises and then it caught on fire.

and any guitarists in my school who get bad grades are dumbasses in the first place.

#26
meh, my parents tried to geet me to stop playing so much , i play from about 3:00 when i get home from school, to about 5:30, then do hoework for 30 minutes. Then go out with my freinds for the rest of the night.

They gave up when they figured out i get all a's and if i keep practicing this much i'll be making them big bucks in a few years.
#27
I practice all all all the time and I get mostly A's with like some B's.

Slash dropped out of school when he was 15 and just played the guitar all day.

I used to be suicidally depressed and I didn't give a **** about school, all I cared about was playing my guitar.

I do well in school. Last year had a 4.0 GPA. This year I'm 2 years ahead in math, making A's in every class(normally). I do pretty well in school. And, I'm good at guitar too. It just takes some time to find a system to study, and practice

Someones knowledge of guitar companies spelling determines what amps you can own. Really smart people can own things like Framus because they sound like they might be spelled with a "y" but they aren't.

I just have ADD or something. I only pay attention for a little then daydream the rest of the day. It's not that I play guitar

For a while, I was in a period where my grades were slipping severely. I was always an A-B-occasional C student, and here I was getting D's and F's.

Then I picked up bass, and my grades improved. I now frequently make the honor roll.
