They are both for metal I guess, both modelling amps. Which is better? I'm guessing most people on UG would go for the cube rather the spider.

Play them yourself...and don't rely on the opinions of UG for anything other than entertainment.

And yes, most people here would tell you the Cube shlts on the Spider II.

I would agree that the Cube is a better starter amp, but both will do equally well for a practice amp. I wouldn't use either in any serious applications like with recording or with a band.
