his Unplugged album pwns. definitely get that one. if you like blues music, check out From the Cradle, there's some amazing playing on that album. and of course 461 Ocean and Slowhand are essential. get any of those 4.

John Mayall and the Blues Breakers
Cream - Disreali Gears
Derek & The Dominoes - Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs

If you like Blues I also reccommend Sessions for Robert J. .... buy it anyways.

ALright my favorite has to be The Cream of CLapton. If you can't find something you don't like on there then there is something seriously wrong with you and you need a doctor. Hey, just my opinion. Also, Disreali Gears and Wheels of Fire from Cream are great.

Havin' a Rave up is possibly the best album he played on, but I think he played on less than half of it. It was the only Yardbirds album to feature bothe Beck and God, though they don't play together on any of the same songs.

I absolutely agree with those who mentioned Unplugged. If you're even slightly into acoustic stuff, you will not be disappointed.

same here... except the avatar part.

But I got Cream of Clapton and that's good enough for me... unless you don't like compilations... like me..

As far as compilations go it depends on the artist. For example I have a bunch of Clapton CDs and then I also have that box set that I posted a link to. So for someone just getting into an artist that has a very broad library of music a compilation is the best buy.
