Does this work? Does the bass hurt the actualy amp or the speaker in a guitar amp?

To the best of my knowledge yes, but you sacrifice sound quality even with good 'phones.

I just need an amp to practice through. I have a bass but no amp.

It bypasses the speaker, so it won't break it, but it might sound not good.

It won't hurt to the best of my knowledge.

Guitar speakers can't drive a frequency as low as a subwoofer can. As long as your bypassing the speaker with headphones, it should be fine. It won't sound very good though.
