Hey guys,

I'm in a bit of a predicament. I'm consiering buying a semi-hollowbody at some point down the line, as I adore the resonance and fatness of tone they produce, but I've heard there are serious cons for my choice of music, such as feedback issues.

I used to play in a punk band, but got bored and felt trapped by it. I'm starting my own band soon, which hopefully will encompass all of my tastes (I have a very open music mind).

It's sort of a frankenstein of punk and metal and indie, with fragments of everything else. I like the catchiness and vocal melodies of punk/emo, but I like the techniques, soloing, chugging and riffing of metal.

Essentially you have to imagine Alkaline Trio or Bad Religion playing Metallica and Iron Maiden songs is probably the closest I can get, but without tons of gain.

I was pretty much set on buying a Schecter S-1 Elite but tried out my friend's Epiphone Sheraton, and the tone you can get especially on palm muting, is awesome. It handled gain ok.

Is it possible to take a semi-hollow, pad it out with foam to take out the feedback, crank the gain on it somewhat, and chug?

Thanks for your time. Please let me know if this will even work, and if it does, how.

Thanks guys.

I don't know about this stuff (I've never used it) but it might help: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/DiMarzio-Copper-Shielding-Tape?sku=364741

Anyway I use my Epi casino (With p-90s) For anything from metallica, to seether, to green day, to coheed and cambria, And i use a good amount of gain with it, as long as you don't stand right in front of your amp, or face it at about three feet away, you won't get much Feedback,

hmmm....as far as feedback goes, my Ibanez electric hollow body is fantastic for rock as long as the gain doesnt go past 6, any more and it howls like a b*tch.

Other than that id say go for it. Get one with Humbuckers, i suggest an Epiphone Sheraton. Cheaper than Casinos.
