Hello there, recently I've been trying to learn "I will follow you into the dark" by Death Cab for a Cutie . and its been going really slow mainly because I cannot fingerpick. Im not sure what order I need to pick in.

For example the song (supposedly) starts with a C chord relative to a Capo 5:

so I would play the root note, in this case the third fret on the 5th string, but what about after that?

I've tried learning with a video on Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ByeUCPg6cus) but its not working.

so tell me, what order am I supposed to hit hte strings on say a Fm chord? or an Em chord? when I do the strum (as demostrated in teh YouTube vid) it sounds the same whatever chord he's playing yet when I change from teh C chord (the strum sounds right here) to the Em it sounds different

what am I doing wrong?

(BTW I'm using http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/d/death_cab_for_cutie/i_will_follow_you_into_the_dark_ver3_crd.htm )

well the fingerpicking on that song isn't too precise, or at least it doesn't need to be. i just hit the root note then strum the whole chord really fast and then hit the 2nd and 3rd strings and then strum again. it sounds better to my ears at least. really all that matters is taht what you're playing sounds good so you're allowed to experiment and decide what you think works best
