So many of you who have looked over posts of mine (well, specifically the sig part of those posts) for the past few months may have noticed that I was set to attend a concert by Eric Clapton in Madion Square Garden on the 29th of the upcoming month. Well, fortune has intervened and it seems that Al Di Meola is playing in New York the same night, with much cheaper (and closer) tickets.

So...many of you classic rock diehards may consider it blasphemy but I gave up my Clapton ticket without a moment of hesitation to see the god that is Al Di Meola, whom I would say is easily tied with Jeff Beck as the greatest living guitarist on earth. For any of you unfamiliar with him, perhaps this video will show you why my decision is rational and put you on the right course:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=ydxJZ9IOlPA&mode=related&search=

Note: Di Meola is a jazz fusion guitarist. The fusion refers to that of jazz with rock. His primary body of work is in the 70's. So yes, this is on topic.

That said, anybody a fan here?

Err...I was hoping we could keep this civilized, but if that's how you are going to take it...

1. I have already seen Eric Clapton live with Cream. Same venue too.
2. I am not a fan of the vast majority of his solo material.
3. I personally enjoy the style of Di Meola and feel he is a superior guitarist.
4. The Di Meola seats cost less and are much better

So, please...tell me how I am stupid.

Edit: I figured there might be a different group in the Jazz forum. If it's a problem, that one can be removed.

Mmmm... DiMeola.....

Can't say I disagree with your choice. I especially agree with you on Clapton's solo material being not so good for the most part.

Yes, of course. I would not give up a ticket I paid a considerable amount of money for free. We have two tickets, and since my mom is adamant on going, she will go with a friend (who will pay for the full price of the ticket) of hers while I go off to my own venue about two miles away.

Well, I'm right behind you on your choice, at least in a straight-up match between Al Di Meola and Clapton.

If Derek Trucks is with Clapton, I'd have a tougher decision, though.

Di Meola smokes Clapton into oblivion, as far as I'm concerned. So yes, I'm in full support of that decision.

Never heard of him, but since you recognize Jeff Beck to be the greatest guitarist alive, I can come to the conclusion that you know your stuff. Therefore, I'll look into him.

I don't understand why people flame him for liking someone better than someone who's more popular. I personally would pass up Eric Clapton with Doyle Bramhill II, Robert Cray and Derek Trucks to see J.J. Cale. Or I'd pass up seeing The Rolling Stones with Van Morrison to see Hubert Sumlin. Why? Because I like them better!

If he like Al Di Meola better than Clapton and Derek Trucks, then leave him the hell alone about it.

A few minor spelling and gammatical errors are not the same as sheer lack of intelligence

I can always go in and edit to fix those simple mistakes. You can't go in and edit stupidity and fix it

For the record, I tried to correct those. My piece of crap computer keeps locking up and making it difficult though.

Al Di Meola is indeed a mind-blowing guitarist

i actually prefer his live album in san francisco with paco and john to his solo albums
