i am thinking about building a footswitch for my cube 60, is it a straight forward on off switch? or is it more complicated?

Any switch will do.

I got this pedal, which is meant to be the sustain pedal for a keyboard, I just took it, stuck it into the footswitch channel and it works like a charm.

Just short the tip and sleeve of a jack, and you're good!
I'm not very active here on UG currently.
I'm a retired Supermod off to the greener pastures of the real world.

There pretty easy to make all you need is a lead and 3 momentary switches(standard ones wont work right.) and 3 mono jacks.

Heres some pics of one i made awhile ago.
