CRAP! I start first diploma music in september and im going for my enrollment on the 29th. It would be alot easier for me if i know the names of alot of chords, over grade 2. I can play chords easy but i hardly know any and their names, i just started learning them this past hour and i only know like 3 lol. So does anyone know a site which will help understand chords or learn them really easy? HELP GUYS PLEASE!

you should learn how they're constructed rather than just learning them writ. Do you know your scales? You use the 1st, 3rd and 5th of a scale to make a chord. you add 7ths to make 7 chords, 13ths to make 13 chords, and begin on, say, the 7th to make a dominant seventh. that help?

to concept one, actually a dominant seventh is 1 3 5 b7 (flat 7), and adding a 13th only makes it an add13, in order for it to be a maj13th, it has to have 1 3 5 7 9 11 13, if im not mistaken.

Maj - 1 3 5
Maj7 - 1 3 5 7
Maj9 - 1 3 5 7 9
Maj11 - 1 3 5 7 9 11
Maj(#11) - 1 3 5 7 9 #11
Maj13 - 1 3 5 7 9 11 13
Min - 1 b3 5
mmaj7 (minor(maj7) - 1 b3 5 7
min7 - 1 b3 5 b7
Min9 - 1 b3 5 7 9
Dominant7 - 1 3 5 b7
*Dom9 - 1 3 5 b7 9
*Dom11 - 1 3 5 b7 9 11
*Dom 13 - 1 3 5 b7 9 11 13
Diminished - 1 b3 b5
Diminished7th - 1 b3 b5 bb7

Those are just some of them. The ones with the asterisk means they might not be correct, but im pretty sure i got the other ones right. Theres many more variations, but you can probably see the pattern that goes on there.
