I'm gonna go for the Tweed Bassman ala 1959 in the hands of Buddy Holly . . . but I know ur prolly talkin '80s when u say "classic", right? Maybe a Vibrolux turned up to 10????

Well a Fender Bassman turned up to ten. But a Marshall JCM800/ JCM900 would be better for you (it can get nice The Who tones, awesome AC/DC and Led Zep tones).

Of your original question:

Fender Bassman
Fender Hot Rod Deluxe
Fender Supersonic

On the second part (IMHO):
JCM800
JTM45
JCM900
DSL
It's a fine line between clever and stupid.
