Im recording a song where the bass is supposed to stick out and be fairly noticable in someparts and then not as noticable in others. In other words the bass is being used like a lead and I want it to be noticable at the time over the guitar and then I want the bass to not be as noticable when the bass goes back to following root notes. So far Iv tried adding 3dB to 1.5kHz to bass and -2 to guitar and it worked good except the bass didn't sound to good when it was alone and you could hear the pick in some parts of the mix, Im guessing I should try around 1kHz but Im wondering if anyone has some advice for me in such a situation?

Sorry if the post is hard to understand, I sometimes trip over my words

just stick something in the hole and wiggle it around until you feel something poking out then push it hard.
