Recenly i've been playing my mates RG550, and i find it way easier to play than my LTD MH-1000, prolly the nice flat wizard neck.
So i thought i might sell my mh-1000 and buy a RG-1570 and install some dimarzio's.
You guys think this is a good idea? Or should i stick with the LTD.

Cheers fellas.

If you like the RG, go for it. If not, keep the MH, although I love my RG 1570 and wouldn't trade it for the world

Yeh i thought that, go for which feels better.
But the ibanez has a basswood body, LTD is mahog. Anyone know which is better out of the wizard and wizard 2 necks?

Nooooooooooooo!
Wait a tick, is the RG new?
#6
yeh it'll be brand new, i'd put the pups in my self.
It's the wizard neck on the rg550 that turned me onto it.
#7
The 1570 has a prestige neck, which is 1mm thicker than the wizard neck on your friends 550.

I prefer basswood to mahogony. Its a bit more bright, good for lead tones.

The 550 your friend has is basswood as well.

you mean thicker like depth right? cos the width and flatness of the wizard on the rg550 were perfect, they don't seem to make the 550 anymore.
#9
Umm...

the 550s neck is 17mm
the 1570 neck is 18mm

go figure

as long as the prestige neck on the 1570 is the same flatness and width as the 550 i'm happy.
#11
Yeah, the neck isn't quite the same. If the LTD isn't your bag, go ahead and do whatever you want. But play a 1570 before.

Also the 550 is maple, which is an entirely differnt sound to even a 1570.

And they're not the same width dude, ClassicalAxe just told you, one's 17mm one's 18mm
haha
#12
balls, doubt i'll be able to try the 1570 as there are no decent guitar shops near me!
Shame they don't do 550's anymore.
Apart from the 1mm thickness, is there any difference in the flatness and width of the necks?

Thinkin about it, what other ibanez have the rg550 neck?

550 maple? dowhat? Some 550s had a maple fretboard

TS, all the pre-prestige 5xx and up and some 4xx models had original wizard necks, but steer away from anything below a 5xx model.

yeh 550 maple...

5xx? 4xx? I feel ****in noobish now...what you mean? I'm lookin for the maple 550 neck, i'd get a 550 if the still feckin made em! I like the look of the 1570, but now i'm not so sure as the neck aint the same...
#16
yeh i think it is too, specially with the dimarzios. Like i said, i'd get a 550 with maple neck if they made em! It's the neck i'm after, spose the basswood sounded good too.

5xx ... xx's represente different models. 550, 570,565,520,560 etc. Any 5xx and up is good. a 7xx wont be any better than a 5xx, maybe besides diffeent pickups, and the addioton of a pick gaurd.

Trust me, the difference in the neck is no big deal AT all. I have a prestige neck, and a wizard neck. I love both.

k so we've established there aint much difference in the shape of the neck between the 550 wizard and the prestige wizard, what bout the maple tone compared to the prestige neck?
Man i gota decide on which dimarzios now too...
#19
What do you mean maple compared to prestige? THeir both maple necks, i think you mean the 550 happened to have a maple FRETBOARD.

The maple fretboard is a little bit brither than the rosewood.

Tonezone bridge / HS3 middle / Paf Pro neck

OR if you like brightness, EVO is considerably brighter than the tonezone

yeh i think the evo, just curious, you seem very certain bout the other 2? what's yah reasons?
#23
Because i use them and their good.

The evo is rpetty high output, its characterists and everything else equals a pickup that will pickup lots of mistakes. You gotta be a clean player.

Just an influence.

Basically my playing style has moved more towards a vai/cooley/gilbert sorta direction, hence the change from esp to ibanez so i'm looking for the right set of dimarzios to help re-create their tones. I liked the sound of the EVO that my friend has, it does pick up mistakes, but it's kinda better to notice em so you can correct em.

O.k so i used the Dimarzio "pickup picker" and it reccomended me...

Bridge: Super distorion
Tone zone x2n

Neck: Paf pro
Breed neck
Paf joe

Middle: Chopper
Virtual 2 Bridge
Virtual vintage solo pro

Was so much easier when choosing EMG haha.

You could go all Evos if you really like them.

This seller on ebay sells the EVO bridge/mid/neck package, BUY IT NOW i think for like 165$? Will end up saving you none the less.

Damn dimarzio for giving me a choice!
#30
^ Thats what steve vai uses.

Its the Vai set.

The evo bridge and evo neck are deffferent.. The evo neck is alot more subtle, very good clarity and overall good pickup.

Same with the evo single coil.

Sold it allready ! Time for a new one then, it's either the RG1570 or RG1550 if i can find it.

What about: Tonezone bridg/hs3 middle/evo neck?
