Ok my band is getting very serious now, but i need a better guitar, i want something with versitility and lots of it. I want something that has great brights, and warm mellow tones, but something that can really tear it up with some distortion. versitility is very important, cant stress this enough. My band is playing anything from bowie to the beatles to sabath to the kings of leon, the hives, zeppelin, sloan, oasis. your opinions would be greatly appreciated. My price range is about 600-700 canadian dollars

Sorry to state the obvious but how about a strat?
But fit a hot rail or a JB Jr in the bridge.

i know im thinking maybe a strat, but they are kind of cliche(dont get me wrong, great guitar) and one thing ive been having trouble getting by is the middle pickup, i always hit it while strumming, and i would like a relatively light guitar. What about a semi hollow body, like a dot or casino, maybe an agile es335 copy?

Maybe a HH strat then?
I'd say strats are pretty light. IMO.
I think something in the fender region would be suited.
How about a jaguar? They're pretty much an acquired taste but they're very versatile, if you swap for some higher output pups.

If youre looking for semis i quite like the ibanez artcore.
And the epi dot/casino.
