i didn't know they just sold the stuff straight-out? that stuff's just gold-plated, though, and i'd ware it off if i filed it, prolly.

i've got to where i need banjo frets to get the higher stuff, and i'm doin a project where i'm wantin some gold frets, but i need banjo frets like past the 12th fret.

It clearly says it is NOT gold plated. It's a copper alloy that is close to teh same color as gold. Its the same color throughout the wire even if you file it.. If they made it out of actual gold it would be much too soft and would wear down too fast.
