What are some tips and guidelines people can give me in order to compose a song such as Soldier-Side Intro by System of a Down, or Yesterday by The Beatles. By those two examples you guys hopefully understand what kind of song I'm talking about. The kind of song where the guitar flows with the lyrics.
Thanks.

i would say compose it together with the singer,if the singer is you than you're already set...the singer usually has a way he wants it to be sung so all you have to do is build a backing for it

writing the music first & fitting lyrics to it is a lot harder

I was watching a little video a few minutes ago and the guy said to just like play 4 random chords that you think go well together. After you've got your 4 or so chords, just figure out how to connect them together. I think I'll try that for now.

Btw, I'll elaborate a bit more on what I mean. I mean how in those songs, the guitar pretty much fits with each note the vocalist hits and they follow and compliment eachother nicely. I want to know how you would come up with that guitar structure.
