I just bought an epiphone lp for just under £400. I would like to know what sort of price i should spend on an amp, i think i read it should be a 2:1 ratio-does that mean £790? I was looking into the vox amps(advt's and DA's) but they are under £200,but hjave good reviews. So, should i ignore that ratio thing and get a cheaper one or not. thanks. BTW i don't have a band yet,so i won't need more than 50watts.

spend as much as you can afford thus saving the need to upgrade in the future

Spend as much as you want, if you want an amazing sounding amp that'll last you a long time, spend quite a bit.

Just go out and play a load of amps (I mean a load, at any price range) and see if you find something special, if you do buy it or save for it.

What Chris said Tristan.

A few things

What do you play (Music wise).
How long have you been playing.
How serious are you about playing/your tone.
How much can you afford.

I play mostly rock/hard rock, with some blues, occasional clean and metal(but not very much),so a range. I've been playing for 1 year. Not too long,i know, but i'd like an amp that would suit me as long as poss, and I ideally want an amp which will make my epi lp sound really good for the next few years(w/upgraded pu's). Very serious about my tone,Want the best possible for under £400,but don't need to spend all of it!
The only ideas i have at the mo are: http://www.voxamps.co.uk/products/valvetronix/ad15vtad30vt.htm
http://www.voxamps.co.uk/products/da/da15.htm
and Marshall dsl 401.
